Intramural Sports, Fitness Classes and More and the Texas Tech Rec

The Texas Tech Rec is a popular place for students, faculty, staff, and other members of the community. Most importantly, Texas Tech University offers many recreational opportunities for students. From intramural sports to fitness classes, there is something for everyone! One of the most popular programs they offer is their Recreational Sports Department.

They have a full-time staff with over 200 members dedicated to providing quality recreation activities in an inclusive environment that promotes health and wellness. Whether you want to play basketball, try your hand at golf, or need some pointers on how to use the weight machines, Texas Tech has got you covered!

In this blog post, we want to recap the opportunities at the Texas Tech rec center. You can find out about all the different types of sports and activities that are offered here. Certainly, this post includes information on intramural sport and group fitness classes.

Intramurals Sports

Firstly, the Intramural Sports at Texas Tech provide an unparalleled opportunity to bond with other students in a fast-paced atmosphere. The Recreational Sports department organizes the intramural sports leagues and offers something for everyone. You can choose from a wide range of sports like:

– flag football (men’s, women’s, and coed)

– soccer (indoor & outdoor leagues available)

– basketball (league play; men’s, women’s & coed levels available)

– softball

Group Fitness Classes

In addition at the Texas Tech rec are the excellent group fitness classes. These classes are offered for free to all students and provide a great way to get in shape. The following types of group fitness classes:

– Pilates/Yoga (level I & II)

– Boot Camp Fitness: strength, cardio, core conditioning workouts that will push you out of your comfort zone and increase the results!

– Spin Class: indoor cycling class with motivational music; certainly this sweat-inducing workout is one of the most popular group fitness sessions on campus.

Texas Tech Rec Programs

Finally, we have programs available through Texas Tech University Recreational Sports explicitly designed for women, such as Yoga Nidra Meditation. This exercise teaches mindfulness meditation practices throughout the body, emphasizing releasing tension from the head, neck, and shoulders using yoga breathing techniques. It also helps clear mental fog by forming a safe space to practice your mindfulness.

The Robert H. Ewalt Student Recreation Center is what makes all of this possible. This state-of-the-art facility was completed and opened in January 2013 and has been a central part of campus ever since.

The Texas Tech rec first floor is home to our four multi-purpose courts used by many recreational sports programs and club sports such as volleyball, racquetball, and ultimate frisbee. Our two full-size gymnasiums can be found on the second floor, along with our indoor climbing wall located outside next to one of the gyms. We also have some weight equipment for more traditional strength training exercises like bench presses or leg presses; we even have an area dedicated solely for free weights, which not every university rec center offers.

Wrapping up, Texas Tech Intramurals provide an experience that is essential to university life. Not only do they offer the opportunity to meet new people and build friendships, but it also provides a way for students to escape their books when needed.
