Red Raiders Women’s Golf: Fall Season Recap

Red Raiders Women’s Golf Competes During Fall Season

The Texas Tech University’s Red Raiders Women’s golf team competed in multiple tournaments during their fall season. The Red Raiders Women’s golf team had many outstanding moments during the fall against their competitors on the course.

Head coach Jojo Robertson is currently leading them. This is her 13th season coaching for the program. The first tournaments of the Red Raider’s season were the Sam Golden Invitational and the Mercedes Benz Invitational.

Sam Golden Invitational

From September 13 to September 14, the Red Raiders Women’s golf team played in the Sam Golden Invitational in Denton, Texas. During the tournament, they turned in the lowest 54 hole score in program history. As a team, they made second place in the tournament.

Freshman Chiara Holder made a spectacular debut during her first Collegiate game, tying for 10th individually. Sophomore Gala Dumez and Senior Amy Taylor also performed well, tying for 20th place individually.

Mercedes Benz Invitational

From September 20 to September 21, the Red Raiders played in the Mercedes Benz Invitational in Knoxville, Tennessee. As a team, they made seventh place in the tournament.

Taylor tied for fourth place individually. Junior Anna Dong tied for 16th place after shooting 3-over for the tournament and finished with a scorecard of 70-72-74 – 216. Freshman Chelsea Romas also competed fiercely, tying for 44th place during her second collegiate tournament. Romas finished with a scorecard of 72-72-78 – 222.

Blessings Collegiate

From October 4 to October 6, the Red Raiders played in the Blessings Collegiate in Fayetteville, Arkansas. As a team, they made third place in the tournament.

Dong and Dumez both tied for fourth place, finishing in the top 5 individually during the tournament. Dong finished with a scorecard of 77-69-71 – 217, and Dumez finished with a scorecard of 76-71-70 – 217. Taylor also performed well, tying for 11th place during the tournament. Taylor finished with a scorecard of 75-69-75 – 219.

The Illini Collegiate

From October 11 to October 12, the Red Raiders played in The Illini Collegiate in Medinah, Illinois. As a team, they made eighth place in the tournament.

The Red Raiders played hard during the challenging tournament. Taylor scored the highest on the team, finishing at 27th place individually. Additionally, Dong and Dumez finished closely behind her, both tying for 33rd place. Freshmen Chiara Horder and Chelsea Romas also played intensively, tying for 50th place at 5-over 221.

Jim West Challenge

From October 17 to October 18, the Red Raiders played in the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos, Texas. As a team, they made fifth place in the tournament.

Dumez shined during the tournament, tying for fourth place individually. Horder also performed well, tying for 21st place at 3-under. Dong and Romas notably contributed even-par rounds near the end of the tournament. Dong was tied for 37th place at 3-over, and Romas was tied for 41st place.

Overview of Red Raiders Women’s Golf

Texas Tech University’s Red Raiders Women’s golf team did well during their run of tournaments during the Fall 2021 time of their season. They placed second in the Sam Golden invitational, seventh in the Mercedes Benz Invitational, third in the Blessings Collegiate, eighth in the Illinois Collegiate, and fifth in the Jim West Challenge.

These performances showcase that this is just the start of a strong season. This will give Red Raider fans much more to anticipate as the Women’s golf team keeps competing. Their next tournament will be at the Columbia Classic from February 13 to February 14 in Melbourne, Florida.
