Texas Tech Big 12 Soccer: Recap vs. ISU and WVU

Texas Tech Is 3-3-1 In Big 12 Action 

The Texas Tech soccer team continues in Big 12 play. They headed to Ames, Iowa, to play Iowa State on Thursday, October 14. They then went to Morgantown, West Virginia, to face West Virginia on Sunday, October 17. The team headed into the games with a 9-3-2 and 2-2-1 in the conference. 

TTU vs. ISU

First Half

Both teams closing in on the half, the score stood at 0-0. TTU and ISU each tallied six shots apiece. 

Junior Madison White, the goalkeeper, walked into halftime with two saves. One save was a diving one to keep ISU from scoring in the 13th minute, and the second was in the 15th minute. 

Second Half

Out of the half, the Cyclones struck first in the 49th minute after Mira Emma found the back of the net to take the lead 1-0 over TTU.

The Red Raiders were unfazed by ISU’s score and pushed their momentum to score in the 74th minute eventually. Senior Charlotte Teeter drove the ball past midfield to a sprinting Senior Kirsten Davis, who smashed the ball to even the score 1-1.

In addition, the Red Raiders continued to push their momentum with numbers up top with three forwards. In the 86th minute of the game, Sophomore Gisselle Kozarski netted the game-winner. Kozarski maneuvered her way through the six-yard box and scored off a cross from Freshman Macy Blackburn. Kozarski scored her second career goal and first season; similarly, Blackburn tallied her ninth season, leading the team. 

TTU vs. WVU

First Half

In the first half, neither team scored, but both had significant opportunities to take an early lead. 

White kept the Mountaineers off the board with four saves, including an enormous stop in the seventh minute inside the six-yard line to keep WVU from scoring. 

Second Half

In the second half, WVU broke the silence in the 71st minute with a floating shot that found the left corner to give the Mountaineers the 1-0 lead. 

Kozarski had an opportunity for the Red Raiders to even the score but was denied the chance. The team had another chance with a shot from Kozarski in the 81st minute. 

In the last 51 seconds of the game, the Mountaineers captivated a shot to win 2-0. TTU did not give up; Senior Cassie Hiatt and Teeter each registered one more shot attempt to try and come back. 

Finishing Up Big 12 Schedule

The Texas Tech soccer team returns home to face Kansas on Friday, October 22, the Red Raiders Senior Day.

In their last game, the team will face TCU at home on Thursday, October 28.

The team will then head to the Big 12 Championship in Round Rock, Texas, starting Sunday, October 31.
