Texas Tech Volleyball TCU Recap: Red Raiders Dominated

The Texas Tech Volleyball Team Swept the Series Against TCU

The Texas Tech volleyball team faced TCU at home on Friday, November 5 and 6. The team headed into the series with a 13-10 overall record and 3-7 in the conference. 

TTU vs. TCU Game 1

In the first game of the series, TTU dominated 3-0, taking the sets 25-18, 25-23, and 25-22. 

The Red Raiders opened the match with an early lead. Although, TCU led by one at the media timeout, 15-14. TTU then took the next five of the seven to break the lead. After a much-needed TCU timeout, the Red Raiders continued their run to make it 23-17. Junior Caitlin Dugan created a set point opportunity for the team after a kill, then an attack error gave TTU the win. 

In addition, TCU kept the second set a close race. The Red Raiders pulled ahead with a kill from Senior Brooke Kanas and a TCU attack error to make it 20-18. After a timeout, TCU tied the game at 21 and 23, but TTU had a set point opportunity after a service error. Senior Karrington Jones shut any chance of TCU coming back with an ace to take the second.

Finally, in the third, the Horned Frogs took an early lead of 11-8. The Red Raiders gathered momentum to take back the lead with back-to-back kills from Dugan. They pushed their advantage to 18-15 after a service ace from Freshman Maddie Correa, forcing TCU to take a timeout. TTU created a match point at 24-20, but TCU fought off a couple of match points. A kill from Dugan ended the game. 

TTU vs. TCU Game 2

The Red Raiders continued their momentum into the second series against TCU. The team took all three, winning 26-24, 25-18, and 25-11.

The match started slowly, with the Red Raiders trailing at the media timeout. A kill from Kanas and an ace from Junior Alex Torres tied the game at 21. TTU pulled ahead with back-to-back points forcing TCU into a timeout while being down 23-22. Both tied at 24, but Jones’ fourth kill gave TTU a set point. A TCU attack error ended the opening frame. 

In addition, the Red Raiders pushed an early lead of 8-5 before the Horned Frogs pulled ahead by one. Going into the media timeout, TTU regained their momentum after a kill from Senior Alex Kirby. The Red Raiders started to pull themselves away, going on a 12-4 run, and took the advantage to win the second match. 

Lastly, the third set was all the Red Raiders. The team held TCU to a -.135 hitting clip. TTU had an early 12-2 run, forcing TCU to use both of their timeouts. Out of the break, TCU put together a 4-1 run to try and bring life back to their team, but the Red Raiders finished the game off with a block from Sophomore Maddie O’Brien and Senior Tatum Rohme. 

Furthermore, this win marked the Red Raiders’ first sweep in the conference this season. 

TTU Wrapping up the Conference Schedule 

The Texas Tech volleyball team heads to Morgantown, West Virginia, to play the Mountaineers on Thursday, November 18 and 19. 

Then, they will head home to play their last game of the season before post-season play. TTU will play Texas Friday, November 26 and 27.
