The Texas Tech soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship to face TCU. The team played TCU on Thursday, November 4, at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.

TTU vs. TCU

First Half

The Red Raiders fell into an early hole when the Horned Frogs tallied a goal in the 12th minute. In addition, the team tried to create shot opportunities, but TCU captivated all the momentum and scored again in the 28th minute.

Sophomore Gisselle Kozarski had an opportunity in the 36th minute for the Red Raiders, but it went wide.

Similarly, TTU won a corner kick in the final seconds of the half and nearly caught the back of the net. In addition, Junior Hannah Anderson’s shot rattled off the post before the break.

Furthermore, the Red Raiders headed into halftime down by two.

Second Half

The Red Raiders used the halftime break to their advantage and finally started to find their rhythm. The team fired off five shots in the first 10 minutes of the second.

Senior Kirsten Davis took a shot off her foot. Similarly, both Kozarski and Junior Penelope Mulenga had shots that were blocked by the TCU backline.

Furthermore, TCU broke the silence and scored their third goal in the 80th minute. The Red Raiders’ final shot was on the frame and launched off the foot of Davis.

Despite the team losing the shot battle 14-10, they won in the second 7-6. Unfortunately, the Red Raiders run in the championship comes to an end.

TTU’s Big 12 Championship Accomplishments

Although the teams’ run falls short, they did not leave empty-handed. Davis won Big 12 offensive player of the year. The award was no surprise to TTU fans, as Davis won for the second time in her career. In addition, she also tallied First-Team in the Big 12.

Similarly, both Freshmen Macy Blackburn and Ashleigh Williams landed on the All-Freshman team.
