TTU Women’s Soccer Ties Against UC San Diego in First Road Game of the Season

After a 1-0 start to their season against the UTEP, the Texas Tech Red Raiders women’s soccer team headed to La Jolla, California, at Triton Soccer Stadium. On the road trip, TTU Soccer would face and tie the UC San Diego Tritons in the first road game of the season. Both teams would fight hard in the matchup. And compete to the last second as the game would come to a draw.

Both teams had strong defensive efforts in a very slow first half by not allowing a single goal. The second half told a much different story than the first. After allowing a goal the Red Raiders would come back in the 71st minute of the competition to tie up the game 1-1.

The much-needed goal would come from Macy Shultz to again tie up the competition. The goal allowed for UC San Diego Triton, came from player Kennedy Carter. Schultz’s goal and only point for the Red Raiders would come in an assist from Charlotte Teeter in a breakaway play.

Finishing the Contest

After the game, Tech Women’s Soccer Head Coach Tom Stone had this to say: “We are disappointed to draw out here.” “I thought UC San Diego played well and deserves full credit. They earned the draw. They played hard and had a good game plan. There were some positives within our game. I thought Cassie Hiatt and some of our younger players were outstanding. But we just did not get a complete performance from top to bottom. You don’t want to walk out of here in the second game of the season after outshooting a team 22-6 and not get the win. It’s soccer, so we get that it happens, but the disappointment is in our execution on the offensive end of the field.”

With plenty of chances to put the game away, the Red Raiders would eventually fall short of a win. In the second half and especially over time, multiple Red Raiders would have chances to put the game away. But would not be able to execute. The Red Raiders would end the game by outshooting the Tritons 22-6. The team will look to improve on closing out games as they return home.

Overview

After the draw against the now 0-1-1 Tritons, the Texas Tech Red Women’s Soccer Team will return home. For four consecutive home games with a 1-0-1 record.
