TTU Lady Raider Midseason Review

Lady Raiders huddle together after a play in a basketball match-up

Lady Raider Basketball 2020-21 Season So Far

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders have 8 games left in the season. Their season has seen some highs and seen some lows. They are 8-8, with most of their losses in conference games. They have had most of their wins at home.  After kicking off their second round of conference last Saturday against the Horned Frogs, the Lady Raiders have yet to win a second game against a BIG 12 opponent. They will be traveling to Austin to take on the Longhorns this Saturday; they won their last match against them, a home game.

Beginning of the Lady Raider Season

We have seen some Lady Raiders putting up career-highs and showing they are top players in the conference. Senior, Vivian Gray, has been averaging 19-plus points per game this season, which has made her the only Power Five player to do so. She has proven herself a top scorer and is only a few buckets away from registering 1,500 career points.

Lexi Gordon, a senior, has also been having a great season by putting up two double-doubles this season. She was close to achieving a third in the most recent game against West Virginia.

Senior, Maka Jackson, has been working to reach a new career-high this season after tying her career-high 3 times this season.

This season we have seen the team go on multiple streaks of wins and losses. They have had a few close games, such as the Oklahoma game they lost by 1 point, where the Lady Raiders fought hard to make a comeback in the 3rd quarter and hold the Sooners off. However, most of the games they have lost were by more than 10 points.

Upcoming Game

This Saturday, the Lady Raiders have a chance for redemption with the Texas game. The Lady Raiders won their previous game against the team and ended their previous losing streak. This game would also give Vivian Gray the chance to cross the 1,500 point threshold.

We could see the team win two straight games against the Longhorns which is something they have not done since 2013. This Saturday the Lady Raiders look to start a new winning streak against the Longhorns.
