The first tip-off is quickly approaching and the Texas Tech Lady Raiders have shown their excitement for this new season. Last season we saw an explosive pre-season followed by not-so-great conference play. This season the ladies have plenty to prove. They have had a major change in coaching staff after welcoming new head coach Krista Gerlich.

Despite COVID the team has been putting in hours of hard work and putting their new team members to work. During the offseason, the Lady Raiders secured promising talent with transfer students and first-year students.

This Season with the Lady Raiders

For their first game they will be taking on The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, a team they have played multiple times in the past. They have won the last three matchups. This game could set a promising tone for the season. To finish up their Thanksgiving week play they will be taking on Florida A&M. This is another team they have won against multiple times in the past. With these two games, we will also see our newcomers fit on the team. During the off-season, we have seen talk about Senior Vivian Gray and her possibility for greatness as a Lady Raider. The team has time before they start their conference games to mesh on the court. They will also be able to see what works best for the team. Their first conference game will be against the Baylor Bears, a team that has proven to be tough for the Lady Raiders in the past.

The new head coach, Krista Gerlich, also happens to be a former Lady Raider. She played during the 1993 season which ended with the Lady Raiders taking home the NCAA championship title. This season went down in Texas Tech history and is still talked about to this day. The Red Raiders seem to be ecstatic that they have a for Lady Raider as their coach especially after looking at the Gerlich’s potential for further greatness.
