Texas Tech Soccer Drops Their Final Game to TCU

The Texas Tech soccer team lost their season’s final game before post-season to TCU, then headed to Round Rock, Texas, for the Big 12 Championship. TTU and TCU played Thursday, October 28, at the John Walker Soccer Complex in Lubbock, Texas. The Red Raiders close out the regular season with an 11-5-2 record and 4-4-1 in the conference.

TTU vs. TCU

First Half

The teams fought a tightly contested first half. TTU walked into halftime, holding more shots of 4-3 over TCU.

For the Red Raiders, their lone shot on goal came from Freshman Ashleigh Williams in the 44th minute.

Similarly, Junior Madison White, the goalkeeper, tallied three saves in the first half to keep TCU off the board and go into the half tied.

Second Half

Right after halftime, White saved another shot in the bottom left of the net. Both Freshman Macy Blackburn and Senior Charlotte Teeter responded with back-to-back shots but failed to break the tie.

Similarly, Senior Kirsten Davis launched a shot but was denied. The Horned Frogs broke the silence in the 85th minute.

Furthermore, TCU held onto a 10-8 shot over TTU and won 1-0. Davis led the Red Raiders with three shots but could not captivate.

Texas Tech Heads to Big 12 Championship

Texas Tech headed to the Big 12 Tournament as the No. 5 seed. The tournament is being held in the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas, starting on October 31, November 4, and 7.

After winning over TTU, TCU heads into the championship as the No. 1 seed. In the First round, no. 5 Texas Tech was slated to play against no. 4 OSU.

TTU vs. OSU

First and Second Half

In the first half, both teams battled a scoreless half. TTU recorded six shots, three of which were on goal. In comparison, OSU had three shots, one of which was on goal.

Furthermore, Blackburn gave the Red Raiders its first shot on goal in the fourth minute. Similarly, Teeter and Redshirt Junior Marissa Ling registered the other shots.

In addition, TTU registered eight shots in the second half, four of which were on goal.

Overtime

Both teams failed to score, so the game headed into overtime. TTU tallied one shot apiece in the overtime periods.

Once again, neither team could capitalize in overtime, so they headed into a penalty shootout.

The Red Raiders made their first four shots, but both teams missed the mark on the next two attempts. In addition, Graduate Student Jordie Harr finally converted her shot. The goalkeeper, White, came up with an outstanding save, moving TTU onto the next round.

Furthermore, TTU outshot OSU 16-11, recording seven on a frame. The Red Raiders move on, winning the penalty kick off 5-4. Senior Jen Rose and Teeter led the team recording three shots apiece.

Texas Tech will face top-seeded TCU Thursday, November 4.

The Red Raiders look to redeem themselves after the devastating loss to the Horned Frogs in the conference season.
