Dustin Womble Funds a $20 Million Gift for Texas Tech Athletics

Friday, October 8, Texas Tech Athletics announced a $20 million gift from Dustin Womble to fund a new football training facility. Womble’s fund marked the largest one-time gift to the athletics department in its history.

The New Texas Tech Football Facility

The facility is projected to begin construction in early 2022 and anticipating opening before the 2023 season.

The complex will include about a 14,000-square-foot weight room and a 7,000-square-foot locker room. In addition, the football facility will also have a players’ lounge, nutrition space, coaches offices, and athletic training and recruiting.

Dustin R. Womble

Board Member of Regents, Womble, has already provided more than $10 million to fund the basketball practice facility. The Dustin R. Womble Basketball Center opened this past May across the street from the United Supermarkets Arena.

In addition, Womble is one of Texas Tech’s most significant individual donors and the largest in athletics. He gifted his alma mater with more than $30 million as part of The Campaign for Fearless Champions.

The Campaign for Fearless Champions

The Womble Football Center is the second project in Texas Tech’s three-part plan for the football program. The next project for the football program is, renovating the south end zone of Jones AT&T Stadium.

These projects are part of the Campaign for Fearless Champions, which is the program that has been transforming Texas Tech’s athletic facilities.

Furthermore, the campaign has funded more than $200 million into the athletics department and has funded 25 facility projects. Some funds have also gone to athlete scholarship endowments, nutrition, and the J.T. and Margaret Talkington Leadership Academy.

In addition, the new facility will consist of a two-story complex located adjacent to both Jones AT&T Stadium and the Sports Performance Center.

After the unveiling in 2017 of the Sports Performance Center, reviews raved the center as one of the top-tier indoor football facilities in the country.

Texas Tech Football Facility Once Completed

Furthermore, once the new football facility is completed, Texas Tech will show off one of the most significant investments into their football program. For the Womble Football Center, the construction will cost around $40-50 million.
