It’s been an interesting time in the world of Tech Sports. The biggest story of Fall 2018 was the parting of ways between Texas Tech Athletics and Kliff Kingsbury.
In a move that seemed to be a 50/50 split amongst the Tech fans base, Kirby Hocutt announced a change in leadership for Texas Tech football just one day after the Red Raiders final loss to Baylor at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
The loss handed the Red Raiders a 5-7 season, keeping the Red Raiders out of another bowl.
Injuries struck the Red Raider football team with several key injuries
After holding a press conference to announce the dismissal of Coach Kingsbury, not even 100 hours went by before Kirby Hocutt made a head coaching in hire in Matt Wells of Utah State.
Many fans initially seemed disgruntled by the hire that is until Coach Wells had the chance to state his case in front of a packed community press conference.
“This is not a rebuil year, this is a reload,” Coach Wells said. He spoke about key things including discipline, recruiting, Texas ties, coaching hires, but most importantly, the players currently on the team.
Lady Raider hoops has already seen much prog- ress under new head coach, Marlene Stollings.
The Lady Raiders two losses on the season came by close encounters, one of which was on the road against Florida.
Men’s hoops has reached national rankings. The current No. 11 men’s basketball team is 9-0! Tech will likely head into a much anticipated road game in Madison Square Garden against No. 2 Duke.
