Preview of Texas Tech Soccer Heading into Big 12 Play

The TTU soccer team heads into Big 12 action with a 7-1-1 record, starting Thursday, September 23, against Oklahoma. Following, the team will face Kansas State Sunday, September 26. Both games will be at home at the John Walker Soccer Complex in Lubbock, Texas.

Red Raider Results So Far

In the last game against Eastern Washington, Freshman Ashleigh Williams scored all three goals, giving the Red Raiders a 3-0 win. Williams now has six goals off of 17 shots this season. Similarly, Junior Macy Shultz recorded a game-high of seven shots.

In addition, goalkeeper Junior Madison White had one save against the Eagles, giving her 17 saves for the season. White has only allowed six goals, three of which came against the Red Raiders’ first loss against Arizona State.

Last Season Big 12 Standings

The Red Raiders are looking to come back and dominate the conference this year. The team finished eighth in the conference with a record of 2-5-2 last year.

The Red Raiders are currently second in the Big 12, behind TCU, with their 7-1-1 record.

TTU vs. Oklahoma Preview

In the 2019 season, the Red Raiders and Sooners tied the game 1-1, and similarly, in 2020, they tied the game 2-2. Both teams are looking to win the game and start conference play with a win.

During the game in 2020, both of the goals came from the Red Raiders trailing.

Senior now, Charlotte Teeter scored both goals for the Red Raiders. The second one was off an assist by Davis. Both teams made a goal off a penalty kick.

For the Sooners, both Reagan Glisson and Yuuka Kurosaki scored the goals for Oklahoma.

Bri Amos led the team with two shots and a goal against Virginia and four shots against SMU. Amos averages 0-2 goals in the previous eight games. In addition, Ella Pappas averages 2-3 shots in the last two games.

The Red Raiders will play the Sooners Thursday, September 23. This game will be challenging for the Red Raiders going against Amos, but they have better odds at winning with their 7-1-1 record than Oklahoma’s 4-5-1.

Furthermore, the Red Raiders won their last game compared to Oklahoma, who lost to SMU 0-1. The Red Raiders have momentum from their winning streak starting back up. The Sooners will have to play Williams tight and keep her away from the goal if they have a shot at winning.

TTU vs. Kansas State Preview

Following the game against Oklahoma, the Texas Tech soccer team plays Kansas State on Sunday, September 26.

In 2019, the Red Raiders dominated the game, winning 4-1. Whereas in 2020, the Wildcats won 2-0.

During the 2020 game, the Red Raiders outshot the Wildcats 28-13. Davis led the team with eight shot attempts, followed by Haley Smith with four tries.

For Kansas State, both Christina Baxter and Maddie Weichel scored the goals to dominate over TTU.

This season for the Wildcats, Brookelynn Entz averages 1-6 shots a game. Similarly, Porter List also averages 0-4 shots a game, along with a goal made in the last game. In addition, Marisa Weichel has been the hottest kicker for the Wildcats with six shot attempts and a goal in their previous game against UTRGV.

Therefore, the Red Raiders have another challenging game coming up against Kansas State. Both teams are hungry to win and continue their winning streaks. The Wildcats stand with a 5-4 record while the Red Raiders stand at 7-1-1.

The Red Raiders can win the game if they defend both List and Weichel closely and set up plays for themselves using Williams.

TTU vs. First Two Games of Big 12

Overall, the Red Raiders have challenging games against Oklahoma and Kansas State. Both games will be played at home at the John Walker Soccer Complex in Lubbock, Texas. The team looks to defeat both in redemption to the scores from the 2020 season.
