2021 TTU Soccer Start of September Results

Texas Tech Soccer Start the Month of September 3-1

After starting their season in August, the TTU soccer team headed into September with a 3-0-1 record. The Red Raiders played two home series at John Walker Soccer Complex in Lubbock, Texas. First, they played Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, September 2, and UTSA on Sunday, September 5. 

Start of September Season

TTU vs. Cal State Fullerton

The Red Raiders’ September season kicked off against Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, September 2. The team won the game 2-1, making this their third straight win. 

The team led 1-0 at halftime, with Junior Sierra Castles scoring in the 14th minute off an assist from Senior Kirsten Davis. Castles scored her first goal as a Red Raider; in addition, Davis now has three assists this season. 

After halftime, Freshman Ashleigh Williams scored the second goal of the game at the 57th-minute mark. Williams made the goal off an assist from Freshman Macy Blackburn, who leads the team with four assists.

As a result, the goal gave the Red Raiders a 2-0 lead. 

However, Cal State Fullerton started putting together an offensive attack and scored a goal from Karla Rodrigues in the 63rd minute. The unassisted goal cut the Red Raiders lead to 2-1 with 28 minutes left to play. Luckily, the Red Raiders were able to hold on and come out with a win.

Additionally, the Red Raiders finished their start of September game against Cal State Fullerton with a 13-6 shot advantage. The win brought the team to a 4-0-1 record. 

TTU vs. UTSA

The Red Raiders continue their start of September season by facing UTSA Sunday, September 5. The team dominated the game, winning 3-0.

In the first half, the Red Raiders scored their first goal from Junior Hannah Anderson off an assist from Blackburn in the 30th minute. 

As a result, the team led at the half 1-0, holding UTSA to zero goals. After halftime, the Red Raiders scored their second goal in the 65th minute by Davis off an assist by Senior Jen Rose. Davis scored her fourth goal of the season, taking her career total to 35.

Likewise, Anderson continued the lead scoring the third goal in the 71st minute off an assist from Williams. 

Anderson scored her first two goals of the season to take her career total to six. Likewise, Blackburn leads the Red Raiders with five assists this season. 

Furthermore, the Red Raiders completed a four-game winning homestand. Next, the team heads to Arizona to play in the Wildcat Invitational against Arizona and Arizona State.

TTU vs. Arizona

The Red Raiders head to their first tournament for the start of September, facing Arizona Thursday, September 9. The team won 2-1, extending their winning streak to five.

The team opened their two-game road trip with Davis striking her 36th career goal in the 49th minute of the second half.

In addition, Davis leads the Red Raiders with five goals, four assists, and 14 points.

Following the first goal, Williams scored the game-winner in the 62nd minute off an assist from Davis, giving the Red Raiders a 2-0 lead.

Likewise, the Wildcats tried to gain momentum from the goal made in the 75th minute from Marley Chappel. They were able to cut the Red Raiders’ lead to 2-1.

As a result, the Red Raiders held their lead to win 2-1 advancing their record to 6-0-1. 

TTU vs. Arizona State

The Red Raiders faced their first loss of the season to Arizona State on Sunday, September 12. The team lost the game 3-2.

During the first half, Arizona State scored the first goal in the 44th minute by Olivia Kearse-Thomas. The Red Raiders headed into halftime, trailing 1-0.

Following halftime, Arizona State increased their lead during the 53rd and 60th minutes. Nicole Douglas and Jazmine Wilkinson made the goals for Arizona State, giving them a 3-0 lead.

Shortly after, Davis cut the lead down to two with a goal in the 64th minute. The goal marked Davis’ sixth of the season.

The Red Raiders continued their momentum, winning a free-kick just outside the box. Senior Charlotte Teeter took the shot into the upper-left corner in the 71st minute, marking Teeter’s first goal of the year. The blast cut the lead to 3-2, Arizona State still leading.

In addition, the Red Raiders won two corner kick opportunities but were denied a comeback by Arizona State, who held on for the 3-2 win. The loss pushed the Red Raiders’ record to 6-1-1.

Start of September Complete: TTU Soccer Looks to Wrap up Month Strong

Overall, the start of September went well for the soccer team as they won three games and lost once. 

The Red Raiders will continue the start of September by heading home for their last non-conference game against Eastern Washington on Sunday, September 19.

The team will then head into Big 12 play, first facing Oklahoma Thursday, September 23, followed by Kansas State on Sunday, September 26. Both games will be at the John Walker Soccer Complex in Lubbock, Texas.
