TTU Soccer Defeats UTEP

TTU Womens Soccer Defeats UTEP 1-0.

        On Thursday, August 19 TTU soccer defeats UTEP, kicking off their season with a win. At home at John Walker Soccer Complex in Lubbock, Texas. In a very defensive game and their first matchup since 2009, the Red Raiders would not allow a single goal against UTEP Miners. 

At the end of the game, Texas Tech would edge would UTEP by a score of 1-0 from Kirsten Davis. Davis would end the competition with five shots, four SOG, and the Red Raiders single goal. Davis would be assisted by Macy Blackburn. Who would pitch in one shot of her own and provide one assist to Davis to win the game. 

While there were times in the competition that could still use improvement, the Red Raiders will move into the season looking to become a better team. The only shot in the competition would come in the first half of play. But Texas Tech would apply constant pressure throughout the game.

The pressure provided did give goalie Madison White who helped in the shutout. While playing all 90 minutes of the competition, she would not take on a single shot throughout the game. When it was all said and done the TTU Women’s Soccer team would defeat UTEP 1-0.

Coming Up

With a good part of the team returning, look for big names like Davis and Blackburn to be accompanied by others such as Macy Schultz and Jordie Harr. The Red Raiders are now stacked with talent while looking to improve as they progress through the season. With the goals of a Big 12 Championship and NCAA Championship. 

 The Red Raiders will prepare for their next game on Sunday, August 22nd at 1 pm. Where they will travel to La Jolla, California, to take on UC San Diego. After returning home, the team will host four teams in Hartford, Abilene Christian, Cal State Fullerton, and end then UTSA to end their time at home. 

Be on the lookout for the women’s soccer team to keep up their momentum as they will look to start their season off with a 2-0 record. You can buy your tickets now at TexasTech.com.
