Red Raider Fall 2020 Soccer
Texas Tech Soccer took on the Oklahoma Sooners this past Friday, where they had yet another tie with a score of 2-2. During this game, the Red Raiders scored their first and second season goals in the second half of the game. The Red Raiders fought hard to get a goal in the last two minutes to tie the score. However, neither team was successful in scoring during overtime.
Last week, TTU took on the #9 Kansas Jayhawks and lost with a final score of 0-1. They fought hard to score, but none of their attempts were successful. The score changed during the last 10 minutes of the match, when Kathryn Castro from Kansas bested TTU Freshman Goalkeeper, Madison Martin. This moment was the first time Martin allowed a goal during her time as the goalkeeper. Despite falling to the #9 Jayhawks, this team has shown they are tough. They will not go down without a fight. In the previous week, Tech was able to hold the Baylor Bears to 0 goals for the match. However, Baylor shut down Tech as well, and the game was declared a draw. This game is also where Madison Martin made her collegiate debut as a goalkeeper and made eight saves, earning her Big 12 Freshman of the Week.
What we could see this season
Even though the season is shorter this year, Texas Tech has shown that many of their newcomers are ready to make their mark. These last three games have shown that the Red Raiders are ready to not only take on the Sooners but to attempt to make another appearance in the NCAA Tournament next spring. This week the Red Raiders will host #7 West Virginia at John Walker Soccer Complex on Friday, October 9th. This game could be Texas Tech’s first win of the season.
