In the Lone Star State, Texas Country Music is king. In an exclusive interview with Campus Live, we had the chance to conduct a Q&A with Texas Country Music artist, Wade Bow- en.

We had the chance to dig into Wade’s music career, talk about his time in Lubbock, explore his life outside of Texas Country Music, and gain some insight of his future. Take a look!

Q:
When was the first time you remember picking up a guitar?

A:
I didn’t teach myself guitar til I was about 17. Late bloomer when it came to that. That’s when I started taking it seriously and started writing songs.

Q:
What was the very first song you ever wrote?

A:
It was a song for a buddy of mine and his girlfriend. Haha. He wanted to impress her. It worked at the time but they are no longer together so maybe not.

Q:
What is your all-time personal favorite song you’ve ever written?

A:
I’d have to say “Before These Walls Were Blue”, a song I wrote for my kids. Tough to write a song that they can keep forever but I’m pretty proud of that one.

Q:
What made you choose Texas Tech as your college of choice?

A:
I came out to visit when I was a Senior in high school and fell in love with the town itself. Everyone was so nice and everywhere I went they had Texas Tech stuff all over. at really impressed me. I loved everything about it!!

Q:
What were you involved in at TTU?

A:
I was a Sigma Chi and I also started playing music full time in college. So my last 3 years of school I was working like crazy already on the road!

Q:
What was your favorite restaurant in LBK?

A:
I loved a small place called Taco Village. Used to be o 4th Street but it closed down. I still miss it!

Q:
If we picked up your phone and went to your Music app and pressed play, what song would most likely start playing?

A:
Probably the new album from Drew Kennedy called At Home In the Big Lonesome. Really really a great new album I can’t get enough of

Q:
Outside of Texas Country Music, what can we find you and your family doing in your time off?

A:
We love movies and golf. My boys are complete opposites so with one we are always going to musicals and watching him grow as an actor. With my youngest, we are always watching him play sports and rooting for our fav teams like the Cowboys, Texas Rangers and of course our Red Raiders.

Q:
e moment you knew you made it in Texas Country Music?

A:
Hell, I’m still working my butt o and always setting new goals so I don’t really know what “making it” means! I just keep working hard and letting everything else take care of itself.

Q:
Where are you at in 10 years?

A:
I truly hope I’m the best I’ve ever been. As a songwriter, I’m always trying to get better. And I’d hope in 10 years that I would have continued to grow and be the best I can be.

Q:
Biggest music inspiration?

A:
Bruce Springsteen

Q:
Biggest frustration when starting your career?

A:
Being impatient and sometimes the frustration of not being taken seriously. Takes a long time to establish that. Once you do it all seems to make sense

Q:
Any message to the Campus Live audience about following your dreams?

A:
You have to challenge yourself at all times or you’ll never get better. row yourself into dangerous waters and swim your way out! You’ll shock yourself and everyone around you I promise!
